As the nation’s first bioart education program, Hyomo Sound Club offers students the opportunity to learn about and experience the intersection of science and art.
With yeast as the course’s primary collaborator, students are introduced to the use of living materials as artistic media, engaging discussions on ethics, biotechnology, and the concept of bioart. The seven-part curriculum begins with basic lab techniques and an introduction to bioart, including consideration of life as material. The course ultimately culminates with students creating their own yeast-driven musical instruments.
