Complementing Annika Yi’s exhibition There Exists Another Evolution, But In This One (which features elements of bioart) the education program A Tiny, Vast World provided students with the opportunity to engage directly with bioart. For this program, a small artificial ecosystem was developed in a separate space within the museum specifically for the students to explore and collect samples from, serving as the foundation for their own art pieces.
While investigating the many visible and invisible life forms within this specially constructed ecosystem, students were encouraged to combine scientific inquiry with imaginative thinking, considering the agency of these organisms and how they are interconnected, influence one another, and ultimately impact us all. By engaging their senses—sight, touch, hearing, and smell—the program offered a synesthetic journey, helping students grasp the invisible yet vast world intricately linked to our own lives.
