This next edition of Signal continues the exploration of yeast as a living musical collaborator, foregrounding its life cycle as an integral, time-based element of the installation. For this version, the record’s top was intentionally kept open, allowing participants an accentuated display of the yeast’s lifecycle as they germinated, grew, and eventually died—entwined with the culture-media-canvas that supported them—highlighting how the environment and the medium become inseparable.
In this edition, the incubator-obelisk containing the living LP was brought to the installation site, while the original immersive pavilion was dismantled, with elements like the circular projection screen arranged along a new axis and dispersed throughout the exhibition space. This new spatial reconfiguration further accentuated the ephemeral and dynamic qualities of the piece, inviting new ways of encountering the biological soundscape shaped by living yeast.
